Trans Music Archive x Figure 8 Recording
2025 Residency Program
From November 14 - 17, 2025 we hosted our first recording residency program with Figure 8 Recording in Brooklyn, NY. We had 335 different artists and bands apply for this residency. The final residents Las Mariquitas and Lambkin received 8 days of recording with an in-house engineer courtesy of Figure 8 Recording. Trans Music Archive also awarded each resident with an additional $1000 stipend in an effort to make the residency as accessible to everyone.
Las Mariquitas is a New York based queer and trans salsa band, a political liberation project. The band honors the legacy of salsa as liberation music by writing new queer and transfeminist songs for the canon.
Lambkin is an avant-RnPop star-in-the-making, Lambkin harnesses the kineticism of pop and dance music to divulge towering epics of love, loss, and hard-wrought selfhood. Her striking voice; vivid lyricism; and extensive background in modern dance training synthesize to form an artist project that is as heartfelt as it is cutting-edge.
This residency was made possible by the generosity of Shahzad Ismaily of Figure 8 Recording and by our donors. If you would like to support programs like this please consider make a tax-deductible donation.
